In July 2014, Pope Francis told Catholics that the Church must and would make reparations for what it did to clergy sexual abuse victims. But that statement is either falling on deaf ears or was just another public relations effort to curtail Catholics from their utter disgust with the way the Catholic Church has handled the abuse of its parishioners.
The Archdiocese of Hartford led by Archbishop Leonard Blair asked the Connecticut State Supreme Court to overturn a verdict for a man who was abused by Roman Catholic priest Ivan Ferguson at a school in Derby, Connecticut in the early 1980s.
In 2012, a jury found Hartford Archdiocese officials negligent and reckless in handling abuse reports against Ferguson and awarded the victim a $1 million judgment. Such judgment is well under the national award for victims, which generally is between $2.2 million and $2.4 million dollars. Despite the modest award, the Church continues to evade its responsibility and delay any justice to its victims.
